Disney has broken ground on the new Star Wars-themed Land at Disneyland, projected to open in 2019. During the “Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60” special that aired on ABC-TV on February 21, Disney shared exciting details about the Star Wars-themed lands planned for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Walt Disney Imagineering has joined forces with the imagination of Lucasfilm to bring this galaxy to life, and the illustrations shared during the TV special show the epic scale of these new lands.

Guests will be able to step aboard The Millennium Falcon and actually pilot the fastest ship in the galaxy, steering the vessel through space, firing the laser cannons, in complete control of the experience. On the other new signature ride, with the arrival of the First Order to the planet, visitors will find themselves in the middle of a tense battle between Stormtroopers and Resistance fighters.

At 14 acres, the richly detailed Star Wars Land at Disneyland promises to immerse you in the Star Wars galaxy as never before, allowing you to create your own adventure. There will be two dining venues including a cantina and an upscale dinner club.  There will also be an open-air market in which all of the vendors will be in character.

“You’ll have the chance to truly step into this amazing galaxy and take in the iconic sights and sounds, but now for the first time ever, you’ll be able to experience it with all of your senses – the smells, the tastes”, said Scott Trowbridge with Disney Imagineering, who is heading up the project at both Disneyland at Walt Disney World.

millenium-falconVideo renderings show The Millennium Falcon lifting off from a desert planet, firing on structures below as well as Stormtroopers returning fire before flying off into the sunset with TIE fighters in the sky. For the second ride, Trowbridge said “This attraction puts you right in the middle of a climactic battle between the forces of good and evil, the dark side and the light.”  Stay tuned for more exciting details about Star Wars Land at Disneyland!

All ART lines begin and end at the Disneyland Resort Transportation Center.
